Blue Fin Tuna Fishing in NS

Captain Durney Nicholas

A lifelong resident of Pictou Landing First Nation, father of three girls (grandfather in January),an avid hunter and skilled fisherman will be your Captain onboard the Jason Rene. Durney comes from a family of fishermen and has been fishing the waters of the atlantic since he was thirteen years old.

Durney learned how to fish for lobster, herring rock crab, mackerel, and tuna from his mentor Martin Sapier Sr. also from Pictou Landing First Nation. Durney worked with Martin for the next twelve years learning invaluable skills and confidence to become his own boss. In 1993 Durney purchased his own vessel and Tuna License (a very smart buy in those years when the license cost $20,000, compared to $70,000. in todays market).

While he does have other fishing licences it is Tuna Fishing that Durney enjoys most. "the thrill of the hunt, the rush of fighting your tuna, the reels screaming as the it runs and the satisfaction of landing one of these monster fish" keeps him comming back every season.

When you board the Jason Rene you can expect a warm welcome from your Captain and Firstmate, a fun time on the water wrangling your tuna and many laughs during your Tuna Town Charters fishing experience.
